SEEK Employment Trends Australia: new job ads are up

The information, communications and technology industry (currently SEEK’s largest employment advertising classification) continues to strengthen in 2015, with new job ads up 14% year-on-year to January 2015.

Other major industries across Australia experiencing similar growth, include trades and services up 12% and healthcare and medical surging ahead with 13% year-on-year growth.

The year-on-year increases present an encouraging start to the year, with new job advertising in January 10.9% higher than in January 2014. New South Wales was a driving force behind the growth, with new job advertising more than 18% higher than a year ago, followed by Victoria at 11%.

SEEK Managing Director of Employment and Learning, Joe Powell, says, “hopefully, lower petrol prices, the lower Australian dollar and lower interest rates will support further improvements in the labour market in the months ahead and offset any uncertainty as a result of the current political situation.”
