Australians are using their mobiles to monitor the job market, analyse career opportunities and submit tailored applications while on-the-go.
Currently, more than 50% of all visits to SEEK occur via mobile devices including smartphones and tablets. More than three million Australians have downloaded the SEEK jobs mobile app since it was first launched in 2012.
SEEK mobile users visit the site three times more often than desktop users and are likely to maintain a steady visitation pattern for several months after initial download; as they peruse available roles to look for opportunities that match their passion and skill sets.
Australians who access SEEK via mobile devices aren’t just career ‘window shoppers’, with approximately 25% of all job applications submitted via SEEK made from mobile devices.
Mobile users are clearly utilising their devices to observe movements in the job market, identify potential career opportunities and review salaries. It is a more sophisticated, analytical and controlled approach to job-seeking than we’ve seen before. Overall, there is a distinct difference in behaviour from those Australians who use desktop computers to visit the site and those who use the SEEK jobs app or visit the mobile site.
Our mobile usage data shows Australians are using their mobiles to apply for roles. With the ability to store multiple resumes in their SEEK Profile, they’re empowered to apply for jobs as they see them, ‘on the go’. With the SEEK app averaging 100,000 downloads each month, hirers should anticipate a deeper understanding from candidates regarding the demand and value for their skill set and experience.
Informed job-seekers will know what they are looking for when reading through roles on mobile. Employers should avoid vague job descriptions and instead provide detailed and accurate information on the role to attract the best candidates. SEEK has, and continues to, invest heavily in the development of its mobile platforms for job-seekers.
App users can already use their job-seeker profile for easy access to their CV and work history, and planned updates will soon make it even easier for job-seekers to keep their profile up-to-date via their mobile or tablet device.
